Would Bill Gates Make A Good Poker Player?

Wednesday 21st May 2008

With billions of dollars in the bank, a highly successful business and his face is in the press each and every week of the year, Bill Gates is a success on all counts, but can he play Poker?

If the latest events in the Microsoft / Yahoo saga are anything to go by then Bill Gates may not be the best Poker player in the land!

Many financial experts have highlighted the fact that the recent on-off on-off saga with Yahoo! has highlighted a number of weaknesses and possible miscalculations. After initially walking away from the deal many are suggesting that Microsoft came back to the table too quickly after shareholders revolted against the Yahoo! board. Shareholders were threatening legal action, the stock had fallen off its recent high and there appeared to be no other suitors in the frame. Yahoo! was in trouble!

Poker is a game of chance, but a game where players need to take their chances, moving too quickly or too slowly can ruin or increase the chance of victory substantially. Perhaps Bill Gates may not be the best Poker player in the world, perhaps business success and the game of Poker are not connected, but there are many that would like to be as rich and as apparently bad at Poker as Bill Gates!
