Organisers Concerned About 2008 WSOP Attendance Numbers

Wednesday 21st May 2008

Say it quietly, but apparently the organisers of the 2008 WSOP are becoming ever more concerned about the fall in the economy and the impact this may have upon those playing and attending the tournament which starts in less than two weeks. Is this a ploy to catch the headlines or is there real concern amongst the leaders of the WSOP movement?

This is the first time that we have seen any comments from the WSOP organisers and while they do have a point – less money in the economy means less money for people to spend on luxuries such as entertainment and travel – will it really have a major impact? The beauty of tournaments such as WSOP is the fact that they only happen once a year and many people spend the previous 12 months saving up to visit or even play at the tournament.

It would be foolish to suggest that this year will break any records in terms of prize money or attendance figures, but there are many in the industry who feel that the numbers will still be healthy. This is THE Poker tournament of the year, a chance to shine and get noticed and above all the chance to bag a few million dollars in the process!
