Greek firm gets two-year integrated services contract from Ohio State Lottery in place of Italy’s Lottomatica.

A subsidiary of Greece’s Intralot has won a two-year integrated services contract from the Ohio State Lottery to operate the agency's gaming services including the provision of equipment for a new online and instant lottery system.
Intralot stated that the new project would be launched in July of next year after a one-year conversion contract beginning on July 1. It said that it has been granted an initial term of two years with up to four, two-year renewals after the conversion of the contract.
Italy’s Lottomatica had also bid for the contract through its GTech subsidiary, which it stated was expected to generate annual revenues of around $25 million beginning in July of 2009 with an approximately $49 million in planned investments over the two-year term. Lottomatica had provided lottery products and services to the American state since 1984 with its current contract expiring at the end of June next year.
This marks the sixth contract from an American state awarded to Intralot as it already operates lotteries in Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico and South Carolina.

According to LaFleur’s World Lottery Almanac, Ohio’s market ranks tenth in the US and 26th in the world in 2007 total sales with $2.26 billion. In addition, it is rumoured that the Midwest state’s turnover could increase significantly in the next few years following the introduction of keno.
