Barkley settles Wynn debt
Wednesday 21st May 2008
Legendary basketball player Charles Barkley has stuck to his promise and paid back the $400,000 he owed to Wynn Las Vegas.
Barkley ran up the debt last October when he took out a series of loans - and the situation came to light last week when he was threatened with legal action.
But now the Associated Press is reporting that the celebrity gambler has sent the casino the money.
"True to my word, I sent a $400,000 cashier's check overnight to Wynn Las Vegas, which they confirmed they received," the 1993 MVP said.
Barkley also vowed to pay the district attorney office the $40,000 he owes them due to the complaint, suggesting he would have paid them already had he known there was a mandatory charge of ten per cent.
Since retiring from basketball, Barkley has enjoyed a close association with politics and recently lent his support to poker enthusiast Barack Obama in his attempt to become the next US president.
