Scarborough Receives Green Light For Second Casino Venue
Monday 2nd June 2008
While probably better know as a holiday town, the council of Scarborough has received the green light from the House of Lords for a second casino in the area. The debate about a new ‘small’ casino in Scarborough has been ongoing for sometime attracting a number of different views and opinions. However, the debate has now moved on to where the new casino will be located.
While the new venue will not be opening until 2011 at the earliest, the local authorities have announced plans to put the development and management of the casino out to tender. This process will not only depend on the cost and quality of the operation but also what the new casino owner can actually bring to the area.
Like most states in the US, the local authorities are viewing this new venture as not only a way of increasing the tax income for the local council, but as a way of regenerating a large area of the town. A new casino has the potential to attract a new and more lucrative crowd to the town, at a time when the traditional UK holiday market is more competitive than ever before.
However, there are those who believe that the new casino will scare away many of the traditional family holiday makers who have been going to Scarborough for many years.
