New Zealand Casino Operator Plays For The Big Time

Monday 2nd June 2008

While SkyCity may be the biggest name in the Australian / New Zealand casino market it has failed to attract the worldwide players it needs to go global. However, the company has recently announced its intention to start a NZ$1 million tournament in the hope of catching the eye of Poker players around the world.

By using the NZ$1 million prize as bait they hope to increase the footfall to their traditional casino venues and push up income from their other casino games. The move is a daring one, especially when you consider the state of the worldwide economy, but it is one which might just pay off with NZ$1 million receiving a lot more attention in the industry than just a year ago.

The New Zealand Poker / Casino market has shown substantial growth over the last few years and there are more Poker league players than ever before. While this has attracted some of the worldwide casino groups to the country there still seems to be great demand for SkyCity operations – even if the company was rumoured to be up for sale just a short time ago.

It seems that there are no barriers for the Poker industry as demand and popularity continues to grow.
