While the main event is still over 4 weeks away there are already signs that the growing interesting in betting on Poker matches is set to explode. The pastime of betting on Poker events is something which has taken off over the last few years and one which is very difficult for the Bookmarkers to get an angle on. When you consider that there were nearly 9,000 entries in the 2006 WSOP main event you might start to appreciate the difficulty in offering odds on each player!
However, Bookmakers have now realised that there is money to be right across the board and they are now offering gamblers the chance to not only bet on the main event winner but also who will actually make it to the main table in November. Currently the leaders to make it to the final table, all quoted at no less than 100/1, are Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth, Carlos Mortensen, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu and Allen Cunningham.
It is also interesting to note that an established Poker player has not won the main event since 2001, something else the Bookmakers will have at the front of their minds.
