Celebrity women crash out of WSOP

Monday 9th June 2008

This weekend was a particularly tough one for celebrities in the $1,000 (£500) Ladies no-limit Texas hold'em event at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

One of the first big names to go was Jennifer Tilly, star of Bound and Liar Liar.

Despite being the first celebrity to win a WSOP bracelet in 2005, Tilly fell to a straight after she failed to hit a flush in the first half hour of play.

Country singer Mindy McCready and Cheryl Hines who stars in HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, soon followed Tilly.

While they lasted slightly longer, they were both out within five hours of the start of the three-day event.

Poker pro Linda Johnson showed the amateurs how it is done when she took down Camryn Manheim of The Practice with pocket aces.

It was not all bad for celebrities though, Shannon Elizabeth of American Pie fame could not enter the event as she was still hanging on playing $10,000 seven-card-stud.

Tilly triumphed in the WSOP Ladies no-limit Texas hold'em tournament in 2005 to win $158,625 and a gold bracelet, while her tournament winnings to date exceed $450,000.
