The second-biggest ever win at Absolute Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot announced
Monday 9th June 2008
A mid-stakes online poker player from Atlanta, Georgia, netted a massive win for her and those playing similar stakes – simply by losing!
Absolute Poker offer certain tables where a progressive bad beat jackpot is accumulated from the rake – if anyone playing at any of those tables loses with four of a kind eights or better using both their hole cards, the jackpot is unleashed.
On this occasion, BUDYLOVE lost with four nines to a king-high straight flush.
BUDYLOVE won $246k for the beat and the winner of the pot received $131k. Any other participants in the hand and those playing similar stakes to the lucky table split over $100k between them.
The latest jackpot win was just shy of beating the previous Bad Beat Jackpot world record set by Absolute Poker last year. In August 2007, KADI, a player from Australia, lost while holding a 10-high Straight Flush to a King-high Straight Flush. This released a Bad Beat Jackpot of $821,670.69. Absolute Poker still holds the record for the largest Bad Beat Jackpot ever won in online poker history.
