Online backgammon site BackgammonMasters.com has announced that it will help victims of the earthquake in China by matching five dollars for every dollar donated from a month’s worth of tournament buy-ins ranging from $4.50 to $200.
The site will also hold special backgammon and blackjack tournaments where all of the prize money will go directly to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), whose main focus of attention and assistance is on child victims of last month’s quake.
BackgammonMasters.com raised the stakes by offering to donate five dollars for every dollar given by players after online casino PokerStars.com offered to match their players’ donations dollar for dollar.
'It doesn't really matter how much is invested in the donation, as long as companies are doing what they can to help and to raise awareness,” read a statement from BackgammonMasters.com.
“We feel that it is important to encourage charitable gaming and to make this type of community outreach in the online casino world a common occurrence. Some people may be surprised that we are doing this but we've always known that casino owners and players have huge hearts and pockets.”
The site stated that backgammon and blackjack tournaments would be offered around the clock so that members may log in from anywhere in the world and begin playing in order to help this worthy cause. In addition, players can add additional winnings from other games to a special donation account that has been established for each player in its cashier section.
