Microsoft Hits The Casino Scene

Thursday 12th June 2008

Is there no area of the economy safe from the clutches of Microsoft? Is there no escape from the Bill Gates affect? It seems not............

The Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is the second major gambling establishment to take delivery of the Microsoft Surface and it seems as though clients are responding well to the ‘gimmick’. As the names suggests the Microsoft Surface is a touch sensitive ‘table’ which allows customers to order drinks, send their photos to others in the bar and play a number of fairly simple non-gambling games. The fact that Harrah’s Entertainment has taken delivery of the system bodes well and there are hopes it will be rolled out across the group.

At this moment in time there are no plans to introduce gambling games to the Microsoft Surface system although interestingly it seems as though Harrah’s has introduced their own software package to the system – a sign that they are looking to rollout gambling games in the not too distant future?

As money becomes ever tighter, systems such as the Microsoft Surface offer an interesting alternative to playing at the tables and it will be interesting to see if the system is taken up by any other large casinos companies.
