French budget minister Eric Woerth met with the European Commissioner to discuss plans to open up the country's online gambling market and will be presenting his plan to the Council of Ministers today.
France has been involved in a dispute with the European Commission due to the fact that all of its online gambling was controlled by a state monopoly and was limited to horse racing and Francaise des Jeux lotteries.
However, this may be set to change as the state plans to allow a "controlled opening" with licenses granted to other gambling companies by 2009.
Mr Woerth commented in a Reuters article: "We also want to open up casino games like poker but also roulette or blackjack."
Elsewhere in Europe, Online Casinos has reported that 2.2 million Germans gamble online, with 96 per cent of those gambling on sporting events betting on the Bundesliga.
