Wealth Of WSOP Bracelets In Middle Events

A couple of world championships and some smaller events see several new champs

Wednesday 11th June 2008

The World Series of Poker has once again delighted in throwing together a mix of world-class players, skilled amateurs and those known simply as donkeys for several of its key events over the past few days.

The $10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship played down to two tables that, at first glance, read like a Who’s Who of poker – Erik Seidel, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey all secured a place at the final two tables, but the first was the only one to make it to the coveted final table. He could only manage a 5th place finish however, the top spot reserved for the rather more unknown Eric Brooks, who beat runner up Fu Wong with a diamond flush.

In other events, Jason Young won the inaugural big buy-in shootout event and $224k when he won the coinflip of the century; his AJ beating the 44 of Michael Schwarz. Svetlana Gromenkova left Anh Le in a world of hurt – the former won the Ladies’ Event and the second finished second again after coming runner-up to Jennifer Tilly in 2005. As we report, poker professional Ted Forrest holds a huge lead in the $2,000 Omaha Hi-Low event which is currently three-handed.
