Casinos in America's second biggest gambling centre Atlantic City have reported an increase of 1.6 per cent in revenue over last May's performance.
This will be particularly welcome news as only two of the last 17 months have seen an increase on the previous year's revenue.
While the income produced from slot machines was down, the revenue from table games increased by 9.5 per cent.
This may suggest that the city is finally attracting a different kind of gambler.
With less reliance on slots, casinos may be able to cash in on more affluent high rollers looking to play poker, blackjack or baccarat.
The renovations and refurbishments being conducted by some of the big casinos such as Caesars may also have had a negative effect on the overall revenue, but in the long run this may encourage more money into the city.
Meanwhile, casinos in Nevada are still struggling, with a new report recording a five per cent fall in revenue from the previous year.
