As the mighty Casino Drive fell by the wayside before the Belmont Stakes had even begun, the scene was set for Big Brown to stroll up to the start and run the rest of the field into the ground, leaving them for dead. If only top class horse racing was as easy to predict as that!
Sadly for those backing the leading light in the horse racing industry, Big Brown was just not on form when the race kicked off and despite starting fairly well, when the speed was needed it just was not there. While the horse has undergone a number of tests as a precaution, it seems that all of the excitement, the training and the last few weeks have seen the horse tire itself out.
Connections for the thoroughbred are obviously disappointed that the horse will not join the exclusive Triple Crown club, but let us not forget what the horse has done. Winning one of the famous Triple Crown races is hard enough, but winning two takes a horse with class and style. While Big Brown may be the bookies favourite at the moment, there is no doubt that he will be back to terrorise them in the not too distant future.
