WSOP Event #20, $2,000 Limit Hold'em Final: Negreanu Wins Bracelet, Ivey Owes Him $200k

What keeps this players motivated? The desire for bracelets of course - that and the large wedge of cash Phil Ivey might have to give you if you take up his prop bet

Friday 13th June 2008

Daniel Negreanu has won his fourth WSOP bracelet, $204,784 first place prize money and $200,000 from Phil Ivey after the two had a side bet where each pays the other $200k for each bracelet the other wins. Ivey now has to win himself a bracelet to tie the bet and save himself 'two-hundred dimes', as Kid Poker might say.

Event #20's final table saw Negreanu as the most experienced player by far. Six of the other players had never reached a WSOP fainl table before, while Negreanu had won over course and distance, winning this same event in 2004. It didn't come as too much of a surprise then that the Canadian superstar took down the event.

Negreanu came to the table third in chips, but finally managed to get heads-up with Ugur Marangoz, the poker room manager at the Mirage. Heavily outchipped, Marangoz put his final chips in after being check raised on the turn with the board reading 5d-Kh-5s-Qh. Negreanu flipped over 9-5 (or 'Dolly Parton', if you like your poker hand nicknames) for trips, making him the winner of his fourth bracelet and the top place prize money.

Kid Poker has been playing well so far this series, having narrowly missed out on a final table a little earlier in Vegas. With the side bet still running, don't be too surprised if we see either him or Phil Ivey at a few more final tables this year.
