WSOP Event #28, $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys: The Sickest Final Table Ever?
Hellmuth, Chan, Negreanu, Juanda, Benyamine, and an internet phenom we all know from the biggest games on Full Tilt
Monday 16th June 2008
Play has literally just wrapped up in Event 28 at the World Series, the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha with rebuys. In a day which has seen two stars of the game win bracelets, you couldn’t expect it to be capped, but the final table of this tournament will rival any you’ll see at this year’s WSOP.
With the elimination of Chris Ferguson in tenth place, the televised final table was denied the chance to see three former Main Event winners in action with four cards rather than two. Instead, Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth will renew their long-running battle as both seek to capture yet another bracelet to add to the 21 between them.
They have their work cut out for them though, as they are joined by Daniel Negreanu, seeking his second bracelet, and John Juanda. David Benyamine has been killing the PLO cash games online this year, and with more than one million in chips, he has to be a serious contender to win his first bracelet here.
If that wasn’t tough enough already, there are two of the most promising young players at the table. Kiril Gerasimov finished second to Alan Goehring in the inaugural WPT Championship event, but since then has gone on to win over $1.6 million in tournaments alone.
Overnight chip leader though is Phil ‘OMGClayAiken’ Galfond, who is another who has a reputation as one of the best Omaha players in the world. With almost 1.4 million chips and one of the sharpest poker minds in the game, Galfond is sure to have a fantastic chance to pick up the title.
Want to try and call a winner from this lot? We’d prefer to sit back and enjoy one of the most sensational final tables ever assembled. Either way, there’s sure to be a story to be told by the end of this event.
