Casino Workers Accused Of Stealing Top Players List
Tuesday 17th June 2008
Over the last few days there has been a breaking story in the casino industry regarding the theft of a list of 20,000 top casino players at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City. While the gang of three casino employees have been caught with the list in their possession there are concerns that this may be only the tip of the iceberg. The list appears to have contained not only the names and addresses of the casino high rollers, but additional personal information which could have been the target of ID theft gangs.
Such is the seriousness of the threat, the New Jersey authorities believe that the information contained in the lists was worth a cool $108 million itself!
While the authorities have been very coy about the circumstances surrounding the theft and exactly what the information was going to be used for, it has sent shockwaves throughout the casino playing industry. It seems inevitable that the gaming commission will step in at some stage to ensure that all casino client data is as secure as possible in an attempt to ensure there is no repeat of this saga.
There seems to be a lot more to come from this case....
