Those of you who expected to read about the famous Phil Hellmuth adding to his impressive tally of 11 WSOP titles and 64 cashes will be sadly mistaken with news that there is actually ANOTHER Phil from Madison. Phil Galfond has followed in the footsteps of Madison’s famous son and banked an impressive $817,781 and a WSOP gold bracelet in the $5,000 entry Pot-Limit Omaha game with re-buys.
While Galfond describes himself as a professional Poker player who specialises in cash games, he seemed to have it all to do when the last table sat down. Ironically sitting across the table was a host of past WSOP winners including, Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu and John Juanda. The prize pool for the event finished at $3,085,930 as more and more early losers bought back their chips at a cost of $5,000. The event itself attracted a very impressive 152 entries, which makes Phil Galfond’s win even more impressive.
The 2008 WSOP has been a very interesting tournament to date and we are not even at the main event! Some of the great names have returned victorious while many have been snapped up by some of the younger up and coming stars of the Poker world.
