PPA Debuts WSOP Advocacy Booth

Grassroots organisation opens ‘one stop shop’ at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for poker lovers.

Tuesday 17th June 2008

In America, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) advocacy group has debuted its Poker Advocacy Booth at the 26th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament taking place this month in Las Vegas.

The grassroots organisation stated that poker players and enthusiasts would be able to express their love of the game to policymakers by visiting the Booth, which is located outside the Amazon Room at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

“We have come a long way in educating members of Congress and state elected officials that poker is a game of skill and is not a crime,” said Alfonse D’Amato, Chairman for the PPA.

“Yet the threats to our right to play this great game are not going away. The PPA’s Poker Advocacy Booth makes it easy for poker aficionados at the WSOP to make their voices heard.

“We are very excited to bring our grassroots efforts to poker’s hallowed ground and we are grateful that Harrah’s and the WSOP have provided us with premium space to get our message out to the poker community.”

The Poker Advocacy Booth will be open every day of the competition and feature videos and online displays on the importance of joining the PPA along with an overview of the group’s advocacy efforts. Non-PPA members can quickly join the organisation by visiting the Booth while members can send letters directly to their Members of Congress along with local elected officials urging them to support legislation protecting their rights to play. By sending messages, the PPA said players could make it clear to policymakers that the poker community is a large and active one.

“This is a one stop shop where PPA members can make a direct impact on protecting the great American pastime of poker and I urge everyone to stop by while they are at the WSOP,” said D’Amato.
