Luzerne County Casino Expansion Is Ahead Of Target
Wednesday 18th June 2008
How often have you heard of a casino expansion project being completed ahead of target date? How often have you heard of a casino expansion coming in ON budget?
The Mohegan Sun casino at Pocono Downs, Luzerne County is opening around 4 weeks ahead of schedule with local workers ensuring that the $208 million project has been a glowing success, even in these times of troubled markets and more expensive finance. The expanded casino will have two areas, the old casino and the new casino, with the owners keen to retain some of the old look and feel of the building.
However, when you consider there will be 350 slot machines in the old casino and a massive 2,200 in the new building, it is more like a rebuild than an expansion. Thankfully there appears to be enough demand in the area for the substantial increase in casino services, with the owners of the Mohegan Sun casino keen to start recouping some of the substantial investment as soon as possible.
One reason why the venture has been so well supported in the region seems to be the fact that 700 new jobs will be created at the new style casino, employment which is sorely needed in many areas of the US.
