Just the other day we covered the rise and rise of Phil number two from Madison, Phil Galfond, who out witted his fellow Madison local Phil Hellmuth to bag over $800,000. While two stars in one area is good, Madison seems to be throwing out Poker stars on a regular basis with yet more from the area fairing very well at the 2008 WSOP.
Madison players have been featuring all week with Aleksander Zaslavsly finishing tenth on Tuesday and claiming over $24,000. The same day we also saw Johnny Neckar finishing second in an earlier event and taking home a massive $277,452 – Neckar’s second drop this year in the 2008 WSOP.
There have also been a number of other Madison winners, taking home prizes of between $54,000 and $434,789, so what is it about Madison? Why does it seem to attract more than its fair share of winners?
If you asked renowned big mouth Phil Hellmuth, he would claim that he has created a new atmosphere and drive in Madison, taking Poker to a new level. Unfortunately for those who are not big fans of the great star, he probably has a point with his past WSOP wins catching the eye of more and more people in his homeland.
