Poker players are trying to increase their political clout in Washington in the run up to the 2008 election.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has started running an internet campaign including an election themed headline on their website, Poker 2008.
In addition to this, the site hosts a video featuring some of poker's great players, such as Mike Sexton, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Andy Bloch and Jennifer Harman who encourage poker players to vote come election day.
Primary concerns for the PPA are the crackdowns on poker and other forms of gambling in recent years.
The website states: "Through education and awareness the PPA will keep this game of skill, one of America's oldest recreational activities, free from egregious government intervention and misguided laws."
Legislation in 2006 limiting internet gambling in the US hit online casinos hard, with Party Gaming reporting a drop of 75 per cent in their market capitalisation.
