There are few players in the world of poker who can pull the wool over Joe Hachem’s eyes but a young kid at the WPT Championships made a fool out the big man taking him to the wire. For those not aware of Joe Hachem he is a former WSOP main event winner who has played the big the bad and the ugly of poker and been turned over on very few occasions. So what went wrong?
It was very early in the tournament when the blinds were 100-200 that the action started to heat up and Hachem began to turn the screw with a 5h-3h hand. The unknown kid decided to push things ahead and raised the pot 700 at which point the flop came in at As-7d-4c, Hachem was on the verge of a serious hand. The next lay was the 6c meaning that Hachem, the great poker star, had one of the strongest hands in the game.
Starting to sense victory Hachem followed his opponent in with a 2,000 rise with 7,000 on top, thinking the kid would fold. However he had other ideas, raising the hand by 12,000 to which Hachem responded with 22,000 more!
Looking to count his winnings and call it a day Hachem never saw the 27,000 reraise coming from the kid at which point he decided to fold, convinced he was being led up the garden path by a player with a better hand. When his opponent turned over his hand only to reveal that Hachem had the best hand all along, he realised that he had been well and truly taken to the cleaners!
