News that up and coming poker star Michaela Johansson has joined the Betfair poker team has been well received in the industry. The 23 year old Swede is already a fulltime poker player and will now be representing Betfair on her travels. This is yet another great additional to team Betfair and has catapulted the betting exchange to the forefront of the poker industry.
Companies such as Betfair have been very quick to grasp the long term benefits of sponsoring up and coming poker players, knowing that their profile will grow as their team members progress. When you also consider that every top poker player of today has their own website and fan base, this offers yet more exposure for the Betfair name.
For the record Betfair is already associated with Annette Obrestad, a past WSOP main event winner with a very bright future, putting Michaela Johansson in good company. While there is always a risk with signing up new, up and coming stars of poker, when you compare the outlay to the potential exposure it can be a very cost affective marketing avenue. As the larger poker companies continue to increase their marketing spend there are fears that some of the smaller players will struggle more and more.
