Police operation in Malaysia detains 15 workers at firm’s IT and customer services centre.

Gibraltar-based online bookmaker and casino VictorChandler.com has announced that 15 employees at its Malaysian IT and customer services centre were arrested last week following a police raid.
The operation was part of a wider crackdown by authorities on illegal gambling both in Malaysia and neighbouring nations in the wake of a rise in betting on the Euro 2008 soccer championships taking place in Austria and Switzerland this month. Authorities claimed the Kuala Lumpur operation was an international football gambling syndicate using VictorChandler.com’s offices as a front in order to collect over five million dollars a month in bets from China and Europe.
Police seized forty computers and a laptop in the operation, which followed an unknown period of surveillance that Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof, Federal Criminal Inverstigations Department Principal Assistant Director for Malaysia, revealed included three officers posing as businessmen looking to invest in the company.
“We have identified two local women as directors of the company and we would be questioning them on the illegal activities,” said Yusof.
“We estimate that the syndicate has been receiving bets averaging $1.07 million from China and $4.31 million from several countries in Europe monthly.”
