Why Croupier Intimidation Is Wrong

Monday 23rd June 2008

In the world of casinos it can often be the croupiers who have to handle intense abuse and intimidation at the tables. Often thought of as an urban myth, a number of casino croupiers have suggested that inner city casinos can be very volatile places to work with only those who can handle themselves looking at a fulltime career. But why do some gamblers feel the need to intimidate and abuse croupiers?

Interestingly the croupiers who have come out and openly discussed the threats that they receive have pointed the finger at small time players, those who may well be gambling away their last few pounds. It seems as though the majority of the larger players do not feel the need to become aggressive, but it appears to be a different situation for smaller stake players.

When we talk about intimidation and abuse we are not talking about trying to stare out the croupiers or even a few choice words, many have actually reported items such as chairs and ashtrays being thrown at them. Surprisingly there have been very few reports of serious injury but there are concerns in the industry that it is only a matter of time before a serous injury is sustained.
