The Pros Are Still Winning! Benyamine Collects His First Bracelet, Jesus Close To Another

2008 will be the year remembered for the resurgence of the pros. Frenchman David Benyamine wins his first ever bracelet, while Jesus almost adds another to his collection

Monday 23rd June 2008

Although victories are lacking in No Limit Hold’em events, professional players are winning events left, right and centre, proving that they can still proudly call themselves champions.

David Benyamine, a French player frequently seen playing the highest online stakes as well as appearing regularly on GSN’s High Stakes Poker, won his first World Series of Poker bracelet in the $10,000 World Championship Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better event, beating a field of 234 others to win over $500k. Greg Jamison re-raised all-in preflop with Qh-Kh-6d-2s and Benyamine held TcTh-Qc-3h. The board ran out as: 9s-Js-Td, giving Jamison the nut straight and Benyamine a set with no low hand possible. The Jh hit the turn to give Benyamine tens full and lock up the hand, a bracelet, and $535,687.

Meanwhile, Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson, so-called for his long hair and beard (although biblical historians dispute whether or not the Lord played poker and wore a cowboy hat) came second in the $10,000 World Championship Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better. The $202,406 pushed his total tournament earnings past $5.5m, but he will be disappointed that he was just inches away from his sixth bracelet.
