WSOP Event #35, $1,500 7 Card Stud: Michael Rocco Victorious
In one of the few final tables this year which has been conspicuous by its lack of pros, Michael Rocco wins the Seven Card Stud event
Monday 23rd June 2008
Having the chip lead going into a final table is obviously an advantage, but can also put an extra burden on the shoulders of the incumbent. That wasn’t the case for Michael Rocco as he fought back from a huge deficit going into heads-up to win his first World Series bracelet.
For a change, the final eight here wasn’t harbouring a recognised pro, but that didn’t take away from the appeal as Rocco staged one of the most spectacular fightbacks Vegas will see for some time. Having ground his way back from the brink of defeat, Rocco’s pair of kings was eventually enough to bump Al Barbieri out of the tournament, and left Rocco weeping with joy. A touching moment which reminded the poker public how much the bracelet means to many of the players out there.
