Does The President In Waiting Like A Flutter?

Wednesday 25th June 2008

While the nominations for the US presidency recently closed we are now nearing the real ballot, Republicans v Democrats, but who will win?

Senator John McCain is set to be wined and dined by some of the most powerful players in the gambling world. The likes of Steve Wynn, Terry Lanni, Sheldon Adelson and William Weidner have all paid big bucks for a private audience with the president to be, but will he be of any use to the casino industry as and when he gets into office?

The next few months will see some serious jockeying for position with many industry leaders looking to bankroll the candidate which will do most for their cause. While McCain is not the favourite to win at the moment, he came from behind to win his party’s vote after being well down in the polls. When you consider that McCain has collected nearly $500,000 from the Las Vegas business community over the last few weeks, against Barack Obama’s $272,000 it looks as though we know where the casino players are putting their money.

There has been a growing push for change in the gambling community with many of the main players still unhappy about the ban on online gaming. Will we see changes in this area with a change of President?
