Over the last few years it seems as though every sector of business has had a brush with the green lobby and been forced to consider what they can do for the environment, how they can reduce their carbon footprint. Of late it seems that the casino industry may well be the next sector to come under the green spotlight with an array of new casinos highlighting a number of environmentally friendly changes.
Step forward the Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel, which is owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Any players who venture in to the casino in the day time will notice that all lighting is through skylights with as few electric lights as possible used in daylight hours. A quick step to the bar will also show that all beverages are served in glasses with cans and other environentally unfriendly containers banned.
While there are some in the industry who are not sure if this is for real or just some kind of marketing ploy, it is actually grabbing the headlines. The local authorities are all for it, customers are more than happy with the changes and it does seem to be saving on some of the day to day costs of running the casino. A win win situation for all involved?
