As we look forward to next weeks British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone there has been a flurry of interest in tickets for the race and betting on the eventual winner. For the first time ever the race track has announced that all 240,000 tickets for the 3 day extravaganza have been snapped up by impatient fans prior to the event. But the real fun will start when qualifying begins and we see who has the better car, and whether Lewis Hamilton can take the chequered flag.
The odds on Hamilton taking his home GP should be fair low but there is a feeling in the paddock that the FIA seem to have it in for McLaren. Events at recent races have shown what many in the industry believe to be a bias against McLaren - possibly in light of last years spying scandal?
As a consequence, while the heart says Hamilton, many professional gamblers believe that the odds literally are stacked against the relatively new player to the game. The last couple of weeks have highlighted the amount of pressure Hamilton is under and the fact that he has not been driving at his best. The ten place penalty for crashing up the back of another F1 car at a red light in the pits just about sums up his luck at the minute.
