Former Bexhill boy Neil Blatchly has taken the title of Bristol’s, Gala Casino British Poker Tour (GCBPT) champ after a tense regional heat which takes him to the final. While the 26 year old banked a cheque for £34,750 after taking the heats, he now goes onto the final later in the year and the chance to bag a much larger jackpot.
Even though the GCBPT may not be as well known as the major poker tours outside of the UK, it is proving to be something of an attraction for amateur and professional players throughout the UK. As British poker continues to grow in popularity we are seeing jackpots rising each year, although they still have some way to go before even approaching the amounts available in the US.
As Neil Blatchly waits for his chance to grab the crown in December’s play-off he has confirmed that he is off to play the tables at Las Vegas as a warm up for the main event. With a few pounds in his pocket and the knowledge that he is on something of a winning streak it will be interesting to see if he can land any big wins in Vegas.
