Those who remembered the New Jersey government shutdown in 2006 will be relieved to learn that all casino operations will be exempt after the signing of a new law this week. After the government failed to agree a budget in 2006 the closure of all government operations was called by law, lasting a couple of days until the budget issue was resolved. However, among the operation closed down were the state casinos with government monitors not able to carry out their duties.
This move not only cost the casinos of New Jersey millions of pounds in lost revenue it also robbed the local authorities of much need tax income for the state budget. This new move will put in place back up plans which will ensure that the casinos are able to operate as normal, within the letter of the law.
While many people criticise the number of casinos in the US, the regulatory hoops through which they are forced to jump are enormous and very time consuming. Every casino in the state is monitored carefully, all returns are checked and there is nothing which goes on within casinos grounds which the government do not know about.
