Party Time For The Man Behind Bodog

Friday 27th June 2008

While life has been very good for globe trotting Calvin Ayre, the founder of online gambling portal Bodog, there is one place which you will not catch the playboy billionaire, the US!

Life for Calvin Ayre has never been sweeter but the US authorities are out to nail the entrepreneur with claims that Bodog has been operating in the US in violation of the US online gaming laws. Whether this is just a set-up to make a statement to the online gambling world or a threat which the US authorities will carry out given half a chance remains not be seen, but Calvin Ayre does not seem too bothered at all.

He has not changed his playboy, globe trotting lifestyle (except to stay away from the US) and was recently spotted in Macau checking out the competition and plotting how award winning Bodog can crack the Far East market. It will be interesting to see if Ayre takes a back seat over the next few months or it is business as usual.

Those in the industry will recall that two directors of SportingBet.Com are currently under arrest in the US after the authorities chose to arrest them with regard to alleged online gambling violations. While the industry has been affectively closed down in the US, it seems that some players have found a way around the ban.
