Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Settles Weight Claim Out Of Court
Friday 1st August 2008
While the casinos of today are often full of very pleasant cocktail waitresses and assistants it seems as though the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City may well have taken the look of the casino floor a little too serious. It has been announced that a cocktail waitress who took the casino to court regarding its weight policy has settled before trial although no details of the $70 million claim have been released.
It is alleged that the casino runs a policy whereby cocktail servers are not allowed to gain more than 7 percent of their body weight while working on the casino floor otherwise the casino management are able to begin dismissal proceedings. While this seems so very wrong on many levels the fact the case was settled outside of court means that the casino can retain the policy – at least for the time being.
There were also claims that workers were encouraged to undergo certain forms of enhancement procedures to create a certain look and feel to the casino. Whether this policy will be in place for much longer is debatable as one of the Unions is now taking the case to court.
