The World Poker Tour (WPT), administered by World Poker Tour Enterprises, has today announced a new TV deal which will see the Tour gain more exposure on the Fox Sports Channel, Fox Sports Net. The move has been announced on the back of the recent deal which will take the WPT into India and seems to indicate a dramatic increase in exposure and activity by the Tour’s backers.
The Fox Sports deal will see a new program introduced which will be based upon the WPTE’s subscription site CLUBWPT.com. The introduction of the TV element will allow CLUBWPT.com to offer players the chance to win a seat on the live broadcast tables and pitch for an array of cash prizes.
While the WPT brand has been one of the leading brands in the industry for some time the recent moves to dramatically increase TV coverage will benefit players on the tour and the tour owners alike. The increased coverage will see sponsors fighting amongst themselves to get a slice of the action and with countries such as India now onboard the market for the WPT brand has increased dramatically.
Quite what rabbit the WPT can pull out of the hat to beat the last two TV deals remains to be seem but we seem to be entering something of a growth phase for the WPT although it still has some way to go to tackle the WSOP.
