Poker players who find themselves up against Danes during tournaments should beware, according to recent research.
Card Player found that tournament aces from the Scandinavian country are more likely to finish in the top three than those from any other nation.
Through a tracking scheme, Card Player used the Olympic system of awarding gold, silver and bronze medals to those who finish in the top three at big-money events, such as the World Series of Poker and European Poker Tour.
Denmark's record showed an average of 1.85 medals per million residents (MPMR), over 0.5 ahead of the US, which was its closest competitor.
The bronze medal position was taken by Australia who scored 0.83 MPMR.
Jeff Schulman, chief executive officer of Card Player Media, commented: "The Olympics are where minnows can triumph over titans, and that seems to be whats happening in the poker world."
Gus Hansen is one of the most successful Danish players, with winnings exceeding $7.2 million (£3.6 million) and three World Poker Tour titles to his name.
