News that the English cricket team has taken the final test against South Africa may mean little on its own, considering that the test series was already lost, but the name of Kevin Pietersen is catching the headlines for all of the right reasons. This was Pietersen first game in charge since he was handed the honour of being the England cricket team captain after Michael Vaughan decided to call it a day. So can Kevin Pietersen power English cricket back to the top of the international league? Or will his honeymoon be short lived?
There is no doubt that Pietersen’s appointment was not universally accepted in all quarters, but there is also no doubting the man's ability to grab a name by the scruff of the neck - but will he be able to handle the captaincy as well?
While it is still very early days for the new captain there are signs that he knows what he is doing and could lead from the front. This win sets up the scene for a great Twenty20 international series which starts on 20th August. If Kevin Pietersen can lead his team to victory in the next tournament perhaps some of the doubters will be silenced? But what odds England to fail yet again?
