News that Kevin Keegan was favourite, before today, to be the first manager to leave his club in the new football season has seen a number of rumours doing the rounds. Comments by Keegan over the last few weeks indicate that he is not happy with the set-up which involves Dennis Wise in a director of football role. Will he leave first, will he be pushed or will the Geordie faithful push King Kev onto better things?
However, an intriguing bet has arisen over the last 24 hours with news that there seems to be trouble behind the scenes at Manchester City. If the rumours are correct there is a chance that Mark Hughes could very well part company before even selecting a team for his new club. The problems seem to be two fold in that two players appear to have been put up for sale without the manager’s knowledge and the Thai owner of the club has fled his home country after jumping bail on fraud charges.
The fraud trial is vital to the future of Manchester City as the club’s owner, Thaksin Shinawatra, has had over £800 million of his assets frozen by the Thailand government and there is a warrant out for his arrest. Interesting times in the Premiership and we have not even seen a ball kicked yet!
