Those who follow the UK gambling arena will be well aware that there have been major changes over the last decade with much of that change concentrated over the last 12 months. A report from the UK Gambling Commission has highlighted a number of interesting trends which seem to emerging and gives an overall picture about the various forms of gambling available in the UK.
While there is no doubt that casinos, bookmakers and online gambling has never been more accessible to those in the UK, a survey of 8,000 adults threw up some interesting facts. Of the 8,000 questions it emerged that only 9.1% had actually played any remote form of gambling, e.g. laptop, mobile, etc. This is the same level as a similar survey last year but the figure falls even more when you take off those who only play the National Lottery – taking away a further five percentage points.
Of the remote gambling devices available it will come as no surprise to see the laptop or handheld device at the top, mobile gambling next followed by interactive/digital TV. Yet again we saw that the main age range for gamblers was between 18 and 44 and while the number of female participants is only 6.5% of the total number playing remotely, this is a rise from the 6% figure last year.
