News that the owners of Horse of the Year Curlin issued a challenge to the owners of Big Brown backers was the precursor to a childish rift which threatens to turn nasty when the pair finally meet. It seems as though the challenge for Big Brown to race Curlin at the Grade 1 Woodward race will not happen with the Big Brown trainers very focused in their prep work for later in the year.
The challenge seems to have been provoked when members of the Big Brown camp were quoted as claiming their horse was ‘way better’ than Curlin even though the form book has them both very close. There is friction between the two groups although with Big Brown looking to the Breeders Cup Classic at Santa Anita on 25th October a head to head seems some way off unless there is a major change of heart. Rumours are a bound that the Curlin backers are not keen to have a go at the Breeders Cup Classic because of the synthetic surface.
It will be a shame if these two thoroughbreds never meet but at this rate the closest we will get is bickering in the press!
