Should Poker Be An Olympic Sport?
Tuesday 19th August 2008
As we all watch the UK team winning record numbers of medals at the Beijing Olympics there is a growing call for Poker to be added as an Olympic event at London 2012. But should Poker be an Olympic sport or is it too controversial?
This is a very interesting debate and while it is not a new one it is one which has received significant interest over the last few weeks. As the WSOP 2008 moves to a conclusion later this year there are sure to be renewed calls for the sport to be included in the Olympics, but is Poker a sport or is it a game of chance?
This is the age old question which has always been associated with the game, is there really any major skill to it or is it more tilted towards a game of chance. However, if you ask anyone who has ever played Poker they will tell you that it is a game of skill – and immense skill at that!
There are very few games where you have the opportunity to use your skill and judgement to make a losing hand into wining hand and vice versa. There is more to Poker than chance and the more people who become aware of this the more chance of it ever being included in the Olympics!
