For those who watched tonight’s England football match against the Czech Republic there may well be a feeling that we have seen it all before with the England team very poor on the day and very luck to escape with a 2 – 2 draw at Wembley. However, bookmakers are apparently quoting England at 9/1 for the next World Cup and the Czech Republic at a staggering 50/1, even though they bossed this friendly affectively from start to finish. So can England qualify never mind win the World Cup?
While it would be wrong to make excuses for the terrible performance this evening it is still very early days in the English Football Season. Players are not yet up to full match fitness, we have injuries in the squad and it was a friendly after all. Whether this team can move from the current low form and low confidence base remains to be seen but the fact remains that big a improvement is need just to get through the World Cup finals, never mind thinking of doing well in the tournament!
For those looking to place a bet on England it might be better to let the odds drift out a little as the team will no doubt put us through the mill when qualifying starts in just a couple of weeks time. We have been here before and while last time we fell at the final hurdle there is hope that things will get better in the end – but we are starting to run out of time.
