The Ebor Festival race meeting, which was set to get underway yesterday at York, has been called off.
Tuesday and Wednesday's races had already been cancelled due to a waterlogged course and today it was announced that no running will take place on Thursday and Friday as well.
William Derby, who made the decision to scrap the occasion, remarked: "The track is waterlogged in places and there is no prospect of it drying out."
With the Juddmonte International Stakes its main highlight and fellow Group Ones the Yorkshire Oaks and Nunthorpe Stakes also on the schedule, the Ebor Festival is one of the biggest events on the racing calendar.
The Juddmonte race looked like being one of the most exciting match-ups of the year, with Aidan O'Brien's seemingly unbeatable Duke of Marmalade set to go up against Epsom Derby winner New Approach.
According to Time Form statistics, the two horses are fairly evenly matched, although the Duke does have the marginally higher rating of 133 compared to New Approach's 131.
