While the QE II Stakes at Ascot is still some way off (27th September to be exact) there has already been some action in the antepost market with a number of horses coming to the fore. But can anyone match the might of Henrythenavigator or will this thoroughbred claim one of the top prizes in the UK horse racing calendar?
The is no doubt that after recent runs Henrythenavigator is going to take a lot of beating, if he is on his metal on the day, but do odds of 6/5 in the antepost market really offer value for money?
Even though it would take a brave person to bet against the favourite, those odds do seem a little tight for the antepost market. If these odds are borne through to the race itself, and the horse actually runs, you would expect the odds to have drop below even. So what about the opposition?
As you would expect there is a very strong field for the QE II Stakes with Tamayuz, Ravens Pass, Paco Boy and Duke of Marmalade all prominent in the antepost market. What about the ‘Duke’ each way at 20/1? Or each way on Paco Boy at 18/1?
While Henrythenavigator would seem to ‘have it in the bag’, no race has been won before the start!
