Love him or hate him you have to admire the durability of the PM Gordon Brown who just seems to railroad his way through leadership woes and rumoured challenges. Just a couple of weeks ago it seemed that his days were numbered as cabinet colleague David Milliband went on record with ‘his’ vision of the future – seen by many as his shot at the leadership. So when will Gordon Brown go? Will he walk or will he be pushed?
A quick look at the betting market shows you that the most popular exit date is somewhere between April and June 2010 where his odds are just below 4/1. If the markets are right he seems to have weathered the current storm with odds of over 20/1 on him leaving office before the end of September – a good outside bet?
One period which seems to be very popular with the gambling markets is October to December 2008 in the aftermath of what is expected to be a very turbulent and uncomfortable Labour Party conference. Will he receive a vote of no confidence from his former supporters or will he manage to win them over with his dogged determination?
