'Wizard of Oz' to play poker
Thursday 28th August 2008
Ozzie Smith, known by some baseball fans at 'Wizard of Oz', will be involved in a golf and poker tournament in Tampa, Florida next January.
It has been announced that the former San Diego Padres and St Louis Cardinals Major League star will be appearing at the Joyner-Walker Foundation Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge on January 29th 2009.
Commenting on the event, which will raise money for good causes, Smith said that he hoped people will keep coming back over the years and end up talking about how much money the competition has raised.
"To be part of this is very special," he added. "Hopefully we can come back nine or ten years from now and talk about how successful it's been."
The challenge ran for the first time during Super Bowl week in January 2008, with Smith one of the famous faces to appear at the card table and on the golf course.
