Casino chief reflects on 'milestone' development

Friday 29th August 2008

The chief executive officer of Detroit's Greektown Casino has said that the company has reached an "important milestone" regarding its expansion plans.

Yesterday marked the launch of 25,000 sq ft of gaming space, which chief Craig Ghelfi thinks is a major step in finishing the permanent hotel and casino project, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Some 600 new slot machines have been brought in to the gambling venue as Greektown looks to compete with other facilities in the area.

This adds to the 21-table poker room already residing on the premises, as well as the blackjack, craps and roulette tables found throughout the property.

Greektown's gaming floor is now 100,000 sq ft, and is set to grow further when more gambling provisions are added in winter.

This all comes after the casino filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year due to financial problems related to a development scheme.
