A 52-year-old Yorkshire woman has said that her job as a hypnotherapist has helped her at the poker table.
Rose Owen, a mother of two, whose job involves her trying to help people quit smoking or beat their fears, said that some of the skills used in her daytime job can be transferred to her evening hobby.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that she has gained quite a lot of success playing the card game - in local casinos and other venues - and she has plans to head to Las Vegas to see if she can replicate her good form.
Speaking to the newspaper, Ms Owen said a good card player has to be "very relaxed and focused", while her job observing people's behaviour teaches her how to read opponents.
"When a client's sitting in front of me I'm looking for signs that tell me how they're feeling and whether or not they're nervous," she remarked.
In other card game news this month, London's Poker in the Park was deemed a success after thousands of visitors headed to the Leicester Square event.
